Wellington & District Maps on Display

Free entry.

Wellington Local History & Museum Society has a collection of more than 50 maps of Wellington and the surrounding area.

 

There is not enough room in the Museum to display them. So some, dating from the early 19th century to the present day, along with several 20th century aerial views of the town, will be available for public viewing.

 

Saturday 6th August

10:00 to 12:00

 

Wellington Community Centre,

White Hart Lane, Wellington, TA21 8HN

(off High Street, beside the Royal Mail Sorting Office).


Items on display include: Wellington 1887 town centre map at a scale of 1:500; Wellington entire urban area 1887 map at a scale of 1:2500; 1920 maps of Langford Budville, Nynehead and Sampford Arundel; Somerset c 1809; a page from Ogilby’s 1675 road atlas showing the route from Bristol to Exeter via Wellington - the present-day A38 - and several 1930s aerial views of east Wellington.

Why not come along see the site of your house and its environs in years gone by.
